| ABOUT Morgan is a professional Chicago based photographer with over 15 years of experience specializing in commercial and fine art photography. His emphasis is on environmental portraits, product images, profile stories, location work, lifestyle pictures, annual reports and anything that requires a creative eye. He fell in love with photography as a child when he was given an Instamatic camera for Christmas. He was fascinated how the act of capturing reality into an image changed the subject being photographed. How an instant of expression on a person’s face, once frozen, effected the way that person would be perceived. It is his understanding of this transformational nature, combined with his exploration of how all the individual decisions that go into any image affect it, that make Morgan so obsessive about photography. “I love photography and I feel a deep sense of commitment to the craft and creativity of it. My images are a very important expression of who I am and what I am capable of.” For Morgan, every project is an opportunity to deepen his understanding of the medium. Every image is an opportunity to transcend what he has done and seen. It is his need for constant improvement and his journey to further his mastery of this art that compels him to be a sharper, more attentive and more creative photographer. “Each image must be not only beautiful, but also effective. An amazing image that fails to tell the story as intended is simply a failure." ACTION Capturing action, in the moment, and presenting that story through images is really an interpretation of that experience. Distilling and refining of all those moments that make up that experience, into a concise series of images is crucial to telling that story. “Whether I’m telling the story of a large corporate event or simply an artisan at work, I’ll tell it clearly, effectively and beautifully." PORTRAITS Morgan’s process for getting the perfect portrait starts with him getting a sense of his subject as a person; their personality, what they like doing, what is important to them. Most of the crucial work is done in the first few minutes of the photo shoot, when that connection - of understanding and trust - is made. “I want people to understand that they are safe with me, that I’ll take good care of them and represent them in the best way possible.” SPACES When shooting a place, Morgan understands it is important to know that every space, every environment has a personality. To understand a space, Morgan must understand its usage, contents, colors, time of day, occupants and a thousand or so other elements at play within it. Just as there is a way to show someone in an honest and flattering way, so is there with a space. "Making the right decisions can make the difference between showing off a space and creating an artificial, meaningless image." PRODUCTS Morgan always applies his deep sense of commitment when shooting products. Every element must support the concept, what the photo says to the viewer, and has to make sense for the product. The form, the lines, the function, the texture, the presence of a product is as it is because someone worked hard to make it that way. “With the right lighting and right perspective, every product has a beautiful side. I will put as much effort into portraying your product as you have into creating it." |
